Is Your GHD broken or not working..?

Sunday, January 29th, 2012
We can organise repairs to all models of GHD

If your GHD has died and gone to heaven then we can resurrect it for you. No need to through it in the bin like so many of today’s electrical items.

Broken cords, plates mounts, damaged plates, blown thermal fuses and burned out processors can all be replaced. Operating temperatures can wain over time and even that can be fixed.
Even if it’s beyond all redemption we’ll give you $75 for it as a trade in on the irons we sell and recommend; SAKO. Either way you don’t have to throw it to land fill.
Turn around time is 10-15 working days to allow for current work loads and postage time. All repairs come with a 3 month warranty on the parts replaced or repair done.
All genuine GHD’s can be repaired however fakes and counterfeits (of which there are many) can’t be done due to liability reasons. You can ring us on 02 9878 5877 for more information or you can email us at hairtraders@bigpond.com.

Remembering those in the Granville Train Disaster – 18.1.1977

Life is fragile. Be thankful for each day

Each year I hear this mentioned I remember exactly where I was on that day. I had just started my hairdressing career and was on my 44th day of my apprenticeship.
Now 35 years on that memory is still as clear as ever and it made me realise how fragile life is. It’s tragedies like this that really puts our day to day hassles into perspective. I reckon anyone of the 83 people who died in this disaster would happily change places with any of us if all they had to do was to deal with our ‘issues’.
So how does this fit with a blog on hair? Doesn’t really except that I’m thankful for a profession that has given me so many opportunities and this incident marks the start of my career back in Tamworth at Coronet Salon.

Great article on Short Hair Fashion

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

I came across this article on Vogue’s blog about what is happening with short hair fashions. It’s a good read if you’re considering a ‘new look’ and you’re looking for some ideas on what to go for and how to discuss it with your hairdresser.

Click on the link below and it will take you straight to the article.

New Sulphate Free products from Label.M

New Orange Blossom products from Label.M are sulphate free & smell great

So I’ve discussed several times how itchy scalps can more often than not be associated with the shampoo you’re using on your hair… and primarily because the foaming agent in the shampoo (often its sodium laureth sulphate) irritates the scalp. Often that irritation is accompanied by flakiness as well and people naturally think it’s dandruff.

I see lots of adds on the TV promoting dandruff shampoos that are supposed to ‘fix’ this problem. Problem is that if it’s not dandruff (which is caused by a fungus) then this type of shampoo is probably, at best, not going to fix anything or at worst it’s going to make the problem worse.

So if you’ve got an itchy scalp then maybe this new product that is coming into the salon this week could be the answer.

The new products are Label.M Organic Orange Blossom shampoo and conditioner.

Whilst writing this blog I came across a blog from ‘Miss A’ on these products so I’ve borrowed some of her text on describing the products so I’m acknowledging her by putting that text in italics.

Label.m Organic Orange Blossom shampoo has ‘adaptable control with instant shine for all hair texture and lengths. Formulated with Avocado Extract to smooth the hair shaft and also protects against UV rays with Enviroshield technology whilst counteracting frizz.’
Label.m Organic Orange Blossom conditioner is ‘a mild conditioning formula for the finest of hair types with a beautiful Organic citrus blend of Tuscan Mandarin Fruit, Organic Mediterranean Bergamot, Maltese Blood Oranges, Orange and Lemon Peel extract. All steeped in a base of Cypriot Orange Flower Water which deeply soothes whilst Omega-3 essential fatty acid strengthens and revitalises hair bringing it back to life.’

The products smell great and, as you can see from the picture, they look terrific.

I’ve given these new Label.M products to my wife (she’s the guinea pig for most of the new products that come into the salon) to use and her initial response was ‘smells great’.

‘Hair’py New Year

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Good looking hair is probably one of the best fashion accessories you can have.

You can have all the best in clothes, bags, shoes and accessories yet if the hair doesn’t match the level of all of those things then those things are devalued. I get surprised at times  when someone will spend anything up to $300 on a hair of shoes that get worn occasionally yet baulk at spending money on having great looking hair. If you spent $300 on great looking hair and it lasts you two months then it has cost you just $5.00 a day.

So what does it take to have great looking hair? Here are some tips to help.

  • Start with what you use at home to look after your hair. Just because a product is highly advertised does not mean it will be the best option for your hair. That advertising cost comes out of what you pay for that product along with all other associated costs such as packaging, marketing, transport, the manufacturing costs & the profit margins that both the manufacturer and retailer want to achieve. So how much does that leave to spend on the quality of the ingredients that go into the product? One can only imagine. I call it insurance for your hair.
  • If you’re out in the sun a lot then wear a hat and use a hair moisturiser. The fastest way to fade colour out of your hair is 1. Too much sun and 2. Using the wrong shampoo
  • Keep you hair regularly trimmed. This eliminates split, dry and damaged ends as well as retains the shape of your style.
  • This is even more relevant if you have long hair because long hair is old hair. (hair grows about 2cm every 6 weeks or about 20cms a year). By the time it gets down past your shoulder blades it has been shampooed many times, blow dried many times, flat ironed, coloured, been in the sun, the surf and the pool so the need to maintain your hair, if you want it to look good, is even more important.
  • Don’t overdo the chemical services. Once hair has been chemically treated it stays that way. The chemical impact on the hair does not reverse with the passage of time. If you have your hair foiled with powder lightener (bleach) then ask your stylist to only apply colour to your regrowth; same with chemical straightening. Bad chemical damage occurs to hair when it is exposed multiple times to the same process.
  • Treat your hair with an intense masque every 7-14 days. This will give you hair a moisture boost and will help strengthen the protein structures within your hair
  • Always use a thermal protectant when heat styling your hair. This will help retain the style in your hair as well as protect against heat damage.
