So what’s the significance of St Patrick’s Day apart from the fact that pubs serve up green beer? Well, St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and the Irish. He was born about 389 A.D. in Northern Wales. According to some Irish writings, St. Patrick died on March 17, 461 A.D.
The anniversary of his death is celebrated as St. Patrick’s Day. The shamrock clover (a well recognised symbol of Ireland) flowers around that time of year. So there you go. A bit of trivia to store away for the next time you’re at a trivia night.
